The report claims Middesbrough have refused to enter into an auction for the Spaniard, ‘paving the way’ for a late West Ham approach.
Brentford are said to want £8 million for Jota, in whom the Hammers have long been credited with interest.

And that, according to The Northern Echo, has been enough to put Middlesbrough off.
The report adds that Jota would prefer to remain in London, which appears to leave West Ham or Fulham as his most likely destination ahead of Thursday’s transfer deadline.

The 26-year-old has excelled for Brentford this calendar year, scoring 12 goals and assisting eight in 25 Championship outings since his return from Eibar.
But the Bees are facing a losing battle to keep hold of him, with his contract expiring at the end of the campaign.
