Silkeborg defender Frederik Alves Ibsen is in London ahead of a medical with West Ham United, according to Danish publication BT.
He may not be a proven, top-class central defender like summer targets James Tarkowski, Jonathan Tah or Duje Caleta-Car, but the Denmark U21 international could still be an inspired addition to David Moyes’ squad.
Alves Ibsen is already a key part of Silkeborg’s first-team plans and has started eight out of their ten league games so far this season.
His departure will be a big loss, then, with BT reporting that West Ham are set to pay £1 million for the 20-year-old’s signature.
Alves Ibsen has been spotted in London with his agent, Christian Bysted. The 6ft 2ins giant will sign a contract at West Ham until 2024 and is expected to undergo a medical shortly.
In fact, Silkeborg have confirmed in an official statement that Alves Ibsen is set to be sold, although they did not confirm that West Ham would be his destination.
“Silkeborg is currently negotiating a club change for Frederik Alves Ibsen in the January transfer window,” they wrote.
It remains to be seen whether Alves Ibsen will immediately become a part of David Moyes’ senior squad or whether he will hone his talents in the U23s under the highly-rated coach Dmitri Halajko.
