West Ham United appear to be closing in on Celta Vigo’s Maxi Gomez.

According to Sky Sports, West Ham United have reached a compromise with Celta Vigo after a £40million deal for striker Maxi Gomez.
West Ham could be busy in the final hours of the transfer window, with fans keen to see a striker come in after Marko Arnautovic’s injury against Wolves last night.
The Austrian’s season could be over, and whilst West Ham are in talks over a new striker signing, the player won’t be arriving just yet.
Sky Sports report that West Ham are closing in on an agreement for Celta Vigo hitman Gomez, having cleared a major hurdle in the deal.
Celta are battling against relegation and wanted Gomez to play out the season, but West Ham didn’t want to pay his £43.3million release clause only to loan him back.
A compromise has now been reached, with West Ham paying £40million – a small discount – to sign Gomez and loan him back to Celta for the rest of the season.

That’s huge for West Ham, just shy of their club-record fee, and they will subsequently be hoping that Gomez can hit the ground running when he finally arrives in East London this summer.
The 22-year-old Uruguayan is a burly front man who has hit nine goals and five assists this season, having hit the headlines last term with 17 goals and four assists last season following a move from Defensor Sporting.
