West Ham have changed their minds and decided that they will loan Reece Oxford out for the rest of the season having previously chosen to keep him around Manuel Pellegrini’s squad, according to the Daily Mail.

It seems a long time ago that the 19-year-old was making his Premier League debut on the opening day of the 2015/16 campaign with an inspired performance, out of position, against Arsenal at the Emirates.

Since that campaign however, Oxford has made just one league appearance for the Irons, and many supporters would have been forgiven for wondering where his future would lie after a disappointing loan spell with Reading and a stint in Germany with Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Mail reports Pellegrini had initially planned to keep Oxford at the London Stadium this season. But it appears that the Chilean has had a change of heart and the teenager is now set for a third loan move.

The Mail adds that there is plenty of interest in the defender, with clubs from Germany, Spain and France all taking an interest in the Hammers academy graduate.

It may well disappoint some West Ham fans that Oxford appears to be on his way out of the club, even if that move is only for the rest of the campaign.

He may need to get his career back on track slightly if he wants to become the player that everyone expected in the wake of that stunning performance at Arsenal, but he is undoubtedly a huge talent.

And with West Ham’s defence hardly covering themselves in glory during the opening two games of the new season, it is perhaps a surprise that Pellegrini is seemingly not keen to hand him a chance to push for a senior spot with the Irons at this stage.
