West Ham United, Burnley and Brighton are lining up to sign Sheffield United contract rebel John Lundstram this summer, according to the Star.

Why on earth any player would turn his back on this Blades side, arguably the best in the Premier League era, is anyone’s guess.

Lundstram played a key role as Chris Wilder’s surprise package marked their return to the big time with a top-half finish in 2019/20.

He even scored five goals from central midfield thanks to his Lampard-esque penchant for perfectly-timed runs into the penalty area.

But, try as they might, Sheffield United are yet to agree fresh terms with the former Everton youngster.

Lundstram is due to become a free agent in 2021 and, according to the Star, Wilder is not exactly pleased as the saga rumbles on with no end in sight.

Sky claimed last week that four, unnamed Premier League rivals were planning to raid Bramall Lane and, thanks to the Star, we now know three of the clubs in question – West Ham, Burnley and Brighton and Hove Albion.

Sheffield United, of course, towered above all three of those aforementioned suitors in 2019/20, finishing 15 points and seven positions higher than a West Ham side who only narrowly avoided dropping into the Championship.

But perhaps Lundstram is concerned about his place in Wilder’s starting XI, losing his place to record-signing Sander Berge and the revitalised Ben Osborn in recent months.

The long-serving midfielder started just two of Sheffield United’s final nine games of the campaign after all. And with John Swift potentially on the way from Reading, he is in danger of slipping even further down the pecking order.
