The out-of-favour West Ham United ace isn’t impressing Manuel Pellegrini.
The Guardian has reported that Reece Oxford leaving West Ham United is ‘increasingly inevitable’.
The 19-year-old hasn’t kicked a ball in any senior competition for West Ham this season.
Oxford, valued at around £6.9 million [CIES, Football Observatory], told The Times this past weekend that he would leave the Irons unless his prospects of first-team football improved between now and January.
But The Guardian claims that West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini is unimpressed with the youngster in training.
The report adds that the Hammers are ‘hopeful’ that Oxford can still be a top player after bursting on to the scene as a 16-year-old in 2015, during Slaven Bilic’s reign, but that an exit is looking more and more probable.
Oxford, who can also play midfield, has a lot of competition with regards to centre-back places and it seems unlikely that he’ll start any Premier League games for United between now and January.
Pellegrini has Fabian Balbuena, Issa Diop, Angelo Ogbonna and Winston Reid, while Declan Rice can also play central defence.
Oxford, who had two loan spells at Borussia Monchengladbach last season, won’t be short of suitors if it comes to that, but he is unlikely to court interest from a Premier League club it seems.
