West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini is reportedly keen to bring both Recio and Marcelo to the London Stadium this summer.

According to a report from The Sun, Manuel Pellegrini is hoping to strike deals for both Recio and Marcelo this summer as he seemingly looks to strengthen the spine of his West Ham side before the new season starts.

The Hammers have certainly been extremely busy in the market thus far, with Issa Diop, Ryan Fredericks and Lukasz Fabianski all being brought in since the start of the window. And while the trio have all improved the stability within the core of the side, it appears that the Chilean is keen to strengthen that area further.

The Sun reports that Lyon centre-back Marcelo is a target, but is going to have to cost around £15 million and will have to be on top wages to meet the criteria set out to allow him to play in the country.

The 31-year-old only joined the Ligue 1 outfit last summer, but did enjoy an extremely impressive year with five goals coming in all competitions. He played regularly in the top flight, but is perhaps best known during his time in France for a bizarre red card he was shown when he received a second yellow moments after his initial caution as he accidentally managed to knock the card out of the referee’s hand and was immediately dismissed.

The Sun suggests that the Irons have concerns due to the price of a deal for a player that is a couple of years away from entering the twilight of his career – though he is keen on a move to the Premier League. Another player that Pellegrini has his eye on is Malaga skipper Recio.

The 27-year-old is the captain of the recently-relegated side and would reportedly jump at the chance to make the move to the London Stadium where he would be reunited with the manager who handed him his first-team debut seven years ago.

Recio did not enjoy the best of seasons last term. He only played 22 times in the league, but managed to collect nine yellow cards and one red card so discipline may perhaps be an issue that should concern the Hammers fans.

But with Recio previously enjoying some success playing under Pellegrini, perhaps a move to England would help the midfielder get back on track after an extremely difficult season in Spain.
