West Ham United are one of several Premier League sides reportedly interested in Salomon Rondon.
According to a report from the Daily Star, West Ham co-chairman David Sullivan believes that the Hammers are in pole position to sign Salomon Rondon this summer, despite the queue of Premier League clubs keen on signing the striker.
Rondon is a wanted man after an impressive year on loan with Newcastle, where he scored 11 Premier League goals and provided seven assists to help ensure that Rafa Benitez’s men registered another solid mid-table finish.
The Daily Star reports that the Magpies want to keep the West Brom-owned star, but the Irons, Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers are all keen on landing the Venezuelan, who is available for £16.5 million.
But the Star adds that Sullivan believes that West Ham can offer Rondon the best personal terms. However, they will reportedly have to wait until Benitez’s future at Newcastle is decided before the 29-year-old makes a final decision on where he will be playing next year.
While Rondon may not be a young striker that Manuel Pellegrini can build his team around for years to come, he could be an inspired signing if he is able to replicate the form that he showed on Tyneside this past season.
If he can have a direct hand in 18 goals once again next year, the team that lands him will feel that it was a masterstroke, especially when you consider the release clause within his contract at the Hawthorns.
