According to L’Equipe (via GFFN), West Ham and West Brom have made contact with Bordeaux over the availability of Josh Maja.
The 22-year-old – who Bordeaux paid a total of £3.5 million for – has a contract with the Ligue 1 outfit until the summer of 2023.
However, he is currently struggling to make the starting XI under Jean Louis Gasset, which could see him depart France.
The Nigeria international wouldn’t be stepping into completely unknown territory if he made a move to either West Ham or West Brom.
While he’s never played Premier League football, Maja did star for Sunderland in League One, netting 17 goals for the Black Cats during his time in England.
Having since gained experience in France’s top-flight, while also just 22 years of age, anyone who signs the London-born striker would be getting an exciting prospect.
David Moyes is, of course, still searching for his Sebastien Haller replacement.
Signing a striker should be of huge importance to the Scot.
Otherwise he will only have the injury prone Michail Antonio to rely on in the second half of the campaign.
In West Brom’s case, Sam Allardyce also needs a new frontman, with Galatasaray frontman Mbaye Diagne expected to arrive at the Hawthorns, according to The Telegraph.
In that respect, perhaps Maja would be a more necessary signing for the Hammers, seeing as Diagne is seemingly en route to the Midlands.
