Report: West Ham and Everton rivalling Arsenal for Steven Nzonzi

West Ham United and Everton have joined the race to bring Steven Nzonzi back to the Premier League this summer.

According to a report from French outlet Le10 Sport, West Ham and Everton have both joined Arsenal in the race to sign Sevilla midfielder Steven Nzonzi this summer with bidding expected to start once the World Cup concludes.

Nzonzi is undoubtedly considered to be one of the finest holding midfielders playing anywhere in Europe. The 29-year-old has been a key part of the Sevilla side that have enjoyed plenty of success in recent years, and his form last season saw him included in France’s squad that travelled to Russia and is currently preparing for a semi-final with Belgium this coming week.

Once France’s involvement comes to an end, it appears that Nzonzi’s future is likely to become a hot topic amongst some of the Premier League sides.

According to Le10 Sport, West Ham and Everton are very interested in bringing the former Blackburn and Stoke ace back to England’s top flight, but they will have to see off competition from Arsenal for his signature.

Nzonzi – who has a £35 million release clause, according to the Independent – would arguably be a fantastic addition for any of the sides interested. Everton’s midfield struggled to protect their defence last season, and it would be little surprise if a number of Toffees fans felt that Nzonzi was an upgrade on countryman Morgan Schneiderlin, who missed out on the national team squad this summer.

Meanwhile, West Ham’s midfield also looked vulnerable at times last term. Manuel Pellegrini has already managed to improve the spine of the side, but the Sevilla midfielder would arguably be the most exciting addition yet as the Hammers look to gain more stability.
