West Ham United are reportedly close to landing Inter Milan’s Joao Mario.
According to Calcio Mercato, West Ham United have reached an agreement with Inter Milan for the transfer of midfielder Joao Mario, paying a €1.5million loan fee.
The Hammers have lost just one of their last nine Premier League games, but manager David Moyes is still keen to bring in new signings to boost his squad this month.
Given that other options are needed alongside Cheikhou Kouyate, Mark Noble and Pedro Obiang, Moyes has prioritised a central midfielder, with a new signing potentially imminent.
Speculation over much of the last week has surrounded Inter Milan’s Joao Mario, and a deal now appears to be moving closer with the transfer deadline just a week away.
Calcio Mercato now report that West Ham are close to signing Mario, having reached an agreement over a €1.5million (£1.3million) loan fee for the rest of the season.
Mario, 25, has allegedly changed his mind over a move to West Ham having previously been reluctant, and is now expected to pen a loan deal with a view to a permanent move at the end of the season.
The Portugal international starred for Sporting and his country before making his £38million (Sky Sports) move to Inter in the summer of 2016, but has started just five Serie A games this season, and is unsurprisingly set to leave in search of first-team football.
West Ham are now set to land a major coup by snapping up the midfielder, with Inter agreeing a deal after manager Luciano Spalletti wasn’t overly keen on the idea of taking Hammers midfielder Obiang in exchange.
