West Ham United reportedly want Corinthians defender Fabian Balbuena in the summer transfer window.

Shinji Kagawa of Japan takes on Fabian Balbuena of Paraguay during the international friendly match between Japan and Paraguay at Tivoli Stadion on June 12, 2018 in Innsbruck, Austria.

According to ABC in Paraguay, West Ham United have agreed to sign Fabian Balbuena from Corinthians on a four-year contract.

No further details have been provided, and there is no mention of the transfer fee that the Hammers have to pay Brazilian club Corinthians.

Good signing for West Ham United?

Balbuena has been on the books of Corinthians since 2016 and has a good reputation in South America.

The 26-year-old is a strong and capable central defender, and one suspects that it is new West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini who is (reportedly) bringing him to the London Stadium, not the club’s co-chairmen.

The centre-back is a Paraguay international, and has turned out for Nacional and Libertad among other clubs.

Summer activity

West Ham have been quite busy in the summer transfer window so far and have already made a number of signings.

The London club have secured the services of Issa Diop, Lukasz Fabianski and Ryan Fredericks so far this summer.

The Hammers did not have a good season in 2017-18, and they will be aiming to at least challenge for the Premier League top six during the 2018-19 campaign.
