West Ham United have reportedly agreed a fee with Augsburg for Reece Oxford.
West Ham defender Reece Oxford is moving closer to sealing a permanent move away from the London Stadium, with Sky Sports reporting that the Hammers have agreed a £3 million fee with Augsburg.
Oxford has played eight times for the Bundesliga side following his loan move during the January transfer window. But he has done enough during his time away from the Irons to tempt Augsburg into pursuing a permanent deal.
Sky Sports reports that a fee has been agreed, and Augsburg hope to agree personal terms with the 20-year-old before their final game of the season, which comes against Wolfsburg this weekend.
It is no surprise that Oxford appears to be on his way out of West Ham this summer. He is clearly not in Manuel Pellegrini’s plans having not featured for his parent club all season.
It is however, almost baffling that he is now leaving West Ham for just £3 million. His Premier League debut – which came at Arsenal when he was just 16 – was outstanding and convinced many that he was destined for greatness.
But his career has definitely stalled since that initial run in the side under Slaven Bilic. Augsburg may be optimistic that he can still realise that potential, but it seems highly unlikely, at this stage, that West Ham fans will be overly disappointed that his days on the club’s books look to be numbered.
