West Ham United have reportedly switched their attention to Salomon Rondon due to Maxi Gomez’s asking price.

According to a report from the Chronicle, West Ham’s decision to target Salomon Rondon has come about due to their unwillingness to meet Maxi Gomez’s £40 million asking price this summer.

Gomez has enjoyed a good year with Celta Vigo, scoring 13 goals in La Liga this past season. Those goals proved vital as his side managed to stay up by just four points.

Manuel Pellegrini had been interested in bringing the youngster to the London Stadium this summer as he looks to revamp his attacking options following a campaign in which Marko Arnautovic proved to be the only player to reach double figures for Premier League goals.

However, the Chronicle reports that the Hammers are now looking elsewhere after being told that they need to pay £40 million if they want to land Gomez – and that has prompted the Irons to register an interest in Rondon.

Rondon was superb on loan at Newcastle, and seemed to prove a lot of people wrong having been looked at as a fairly underwhelming addition to Rafa Benitez’s squad when he initially arrived last summer.

And with the Chronicle reporting that he will cost just £16.5 million, it is arguably not too difficult to see why West Ham have switched their attention to the Venezuelan, especially given that he has been fairly consistent throughout his Premier League career.
