West Bromwich Albion are said to be desperate not to lose the reported Leeds United target

Both The Sun and Daily Mail [live blog entry 15:36] are reporting that West Bromwich Albion have rejected a £4 million offer from Leeds United for teenage forward Tyler Roberts.
Roberts is currently on loan to League One Walsall, where he has scored five goals and created another four in 18 appearances – to attract interest from Glasgow Rangers, Olympique de Marseille and now Leeds [The Sun].

The 19-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, however, West Brom will be compensated if he decides to move elsewhere at that point – provided they at least offer him a new deal on equal of greater terms.
And the Baggies are ‘desperate’ to tie him down, according The Sun.
Should Roberts move outside of England, however, West Brom can expect only a fraction – reported to be £300,000 – of the fee a domestic club would be required to pay.

And, if the Sun and Mail reports are accurate, it would appear that Leeds are keen to eliminate the possibility of losing the Welshman to a foreign club.
Leeds spent £4.5 million on Middlesbrough’s Adam Forshaw on Thursday – their highest outlay since Robbie Fowler arrived at Elland Road from Liverpool 17 years ago – and Roberts’ signing would have taken their January spending to around the £10 million.
