West Bromwich Albion are the latest club to be linked with a move for the wantaway Southampton star, who reports claim was the subject of a bid from West Ham United last week.
West Bromwich Albion are ‘making a play’ for Southampton defender Jose Fonte, according to a report on page 46 of this week’s Sunday People.
Fonte has handed in a transfer request at St. Mary’s, amid links to a string of Premier League sides including Manchester United, Liverpool, Everton and West Ham United.
West Brom are also thought to be in the market for a new centre-half, however, and their search appears to have led them to the 33-year-old Portuguese.

According to the Daily Star, Southampton are seeking £8 million for Fonte, with West Ham said to have offered half that amount so far.
West Brom have also been linked with moves for Swansea’s Federico Fernandez and Barnsley’s Marc Roberts, who despite being less well-known than Fonte are each considerably younger than the Saints star – a factor the Baggies are likely to consider.

Tony Pulis’s side are not thought to be short on cash this month, and are also linked with a £15 million move for Hull City midfielder Jake Livermore by the Sunday People.
