West Bromwich Albion are tracking Cologne striker Anthony Modeste, according to the Sunday People (page 50).

Modeste, who flopped during a spell at Blackburn Rovers at the start of the decade, is the Bundesliga’s top scorer this season with eight goals.

Despite signing a new five-year deal in the summer, West Brom believe the Frenchman can still be tempted away from the Rhein Energie Stadion, the report claims.

The Baggies currently find themselves light up top, having allowed Rickie Lambert and Victor Anichebe leave during the closed season, and Modeste would certainly improve Tony Pulis’ striking options.

In four years since he failed to score in any of his nine appearances for Blackburn, Modeste has found the net on 67 occasions for Bastia, Hoffenheim and now Cologne, who are fifth in the Bundesliga standings.

West Brom were recently bought by Chinese businessman Guochuan Lai, who is likely to provide funds to spend in January.

Pulis previously stated that some of his summer signings were not the ones he had identified, with a number of targets missed.
