West Bromwich Albion are reportedly interested in beating Leeds United to the signing of Matej Vydra this summer.

Vydra appears to be one of the most highly sought-after strikers in the Championship during this window. The 26-year-old finished as the division’s top goalscorer this past season and yet, the Yorkshire Evening Post reports that Derby are prepared to sell him ahead of Frank Lampard’s first campaign at Pride Park.

However, Vydra’s old club are reportedly set to rival Leeds for his signature, with the Yorkshire Evening Post suggesting that West Brom are also monitoring the striker’s situation and would be able to offer a much more lucrative contract than the Whites could.
Darren Moore is preparing his side for life in the Championship and will surely be expecting to have to replace a number of the club’s key men from their Premier League run. While Vydra’s record with the Rams this past season is superb, it would be no surprise if news of the Baggies’ interest left The Hawthorns faithful slightly concerned.

Vydra previously spent a season on loan at West Brom and managed just three goals in 25 appearances for the club. He did only start seven times in the league in that time, but it is still an underwhelming record.
And with a previous report from the Yorkshire Evening Post suggesting that Derby will want in excess of £10 million, it would surely have to be considered a major gamble to push forward and offer Vydra a second spell with the Baggies this summer.
