West Bromwich Albion are hoping that the non-league star can prove to be a bargain signing should he move to the Hawthorns.

A report in the Daily Mail has suggested that West Brom are keen on signing Lincoln City defender Sean Raggett, and are even closing in on a £100,000 deal for the player.

Raggett has really emerged onto the national scene this season, playing a crucial role for the Imps side that reached the quarter-final of the FA Cup while also tackling a successful promotion push in the National League.

The 24-year-old himself ensured a place in folklore by scoring the goal that saw the non-league side knock the Baggies’ Premier League rivals Burnley out of the FA Cup in a stunning game at Turf Moor where Danny Cowley’s men were more than good value for the win.

His form this season has brought him on several clubs’ radar, the Mail reports, and it appears that West Brom are set to be the ones to win the race for his signature as they close in on a six-figure deal.

It will be interesting if a deal does take place, to see how great a role Raggett goes on to play for the Baggies. Tony Pulis’ men have been excellent at the back this season, but it is hardly a surprise that the West Brom boss is seemingly looking to bolster his options with 37-year-old Gareth McAuley remaining a stalwart.

Whether his impressive displays in the cup and during Lincoln’s promotion-winning campaign would be enough to make Pulis feel confident about throwing him into the Premier League remains to be seen if a deal happens.

But there is no question that with the growing cluster of players who have shone in the top flight having come from the non-league, he could certainly be capable of making an impact at the Hawthorns.
