West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing two Manchester United players this summer.
According to a report from the Daily Mirror, West Brom are interested in targeting both Chris Smalling and Phil Jones as Tony Pulis looks to strengthen his defensive options.
The Mirror reports that the Baggies are looking to add two new centre-backs to their ranks this summer with Gareth McAuley turning 38 towards the end of this year and Jonas Olsson leaving The Hawthorns towards the end of last season.
Manchester United’s Chris Smalling
The Telegraph reported last month that Smalling was on West Brom’s radar, but the Mirror is now suggesting that he is not the only Manchester United player that Pulis wants to sign during the coming months.
According to the Mirror, Jones is also a target for the Baggies with his future at Old Trafford also somewhat up in the air following the £30.8 million acquisition of Victor Lindelof.
And the Mirror adds that Pulis is hoping that Jake Livermore’s recent international inclusion will help convince both players that making the switch to West Brom will not hurt their chances of featuring in future England squads.
Given that Jones and Smalling have played together on a regular basis in the past, it would arguably be a tremendous double deal if the Baggies were able to make it happen.
And given that the pair have made over 400 appearances between them in all competitions for Manchester United, it would arguably be the kind of statement from West Brom if they signed them both that would perhaps make landing some of their other targets much easier during the remaining weeks of the window.
