West Bromwich Albion are reportedly battling Hull City and Ipswich Town for Conor Townsend.

According to the Daily Mail, West Bromwich Albion have joined Hull City and Ipswich Town in the race to sign Scunthorpe United defender Conor Townsend.

The Baggies have so far snapped up goalkeepers Sam Johnstone and Jonathan Bond as well as defender Kyle Bartley, but manager Darren Moore is keen on adding more new faces yet.

A left back should be a priority even if just as competition for Kieran Gibbs, though the former Arsenal man may still attract some interest from Premier League clubs ahead of the transfer deadline.

Now, the Daily Mail report that West Brom are indeed interested in a new left back, with Scunthorpe United’s Conor Townsend believed to be their top target for the position this summer.

Hull City have already failed with a £250,000 bid for Townsend as Scunthorpe want £600,000, with West Brom and even Ipswich Town now in the race for his signature.

Townsend, 25, came up through the ranks with Hull having spent 15 years with the club, but made just one first-team appearance for the Tigers before moving on to Scunthorpe in 2016.

Now one of League One’s top left backs, Townsend has racked up more than 85 appearances for the Iron, and has clearly attracted interest from Championship clubs with his displays.

With just one year left on his contract, Scunthorpe may be forced to sell Townsend this summer, and West Brom may well feel that £600,000 is good value in an inflated transfer market.
