West Bromwich Albion are reportedly interested in signing Chelsea midfielder Trevoh Chalobah this summer.
According to a report from the Express and Star, West Brom are interested in signing Trevoh Chalobah this summer with Chelsea ready to loan the teenage midfielder out again during this window.
Slaven Bilic is looking to make his first signing since being unveiled as the Baggies’ new boss. The Express and Star reports that the club are looking to lower the average age of the squad, with a number of older players moving on following the end of last season.
The likes of Gareth Barry and James Morrison have both been released, and it would appear that Chalobah is one of the players that Bilic is considering trying to bring in to help fill the void in the middle of the park.
The Express and Star reports that the Baggies are yet to approach Chelsea with an official offer for the 19-year-old, but the Blues are expected to allow the youngster to leave Stamford Bridge this summer.
Chalobah only made his professional debut last season as he spent the campaign with Ipswich Town. It was a hugely disappointing season for the Tractor Boys as they were relegated from the Championship, but the England under-20 international certainly did not disgrace himself at Portman Road.
The midfielder – who can also play in defence – made 43 appearances in the league, scoring twice.
Big shoes to fill?
One of the key reasons why West Brom came agonisingly close to reaching the play-off final last season was the success that they had in the loan market.
The likes of Harvey Barnes, Mason Holgate and Dwight Gayle were key players during their spells at the Hawthorns. So Bilic may feel under a little pressure, not only when it comes to replacing those who have gone back to their parent clubs, but also when it comes to making fresh loan signings during this window.
