West Bromwich Albion are not planning to let James McClean leave The Hawthorns on the cheap.

According to the Daily Mirror’s live transfer feed (26/05; 14:12), West Brom are not prepared to let James McClean leave The Hawthorns for less than £6 million this summer after Stoke City made a £4 million bid for the winger.

McClean endured a frustrating season for the Baggies this past season. He struggled to hold down a regular spot in the team with 16 of his 30 Premier League appearances coming from the bench. He managed to score just one goal and provided no assists in the top flight as Darren Moore’s men were relegated to the Championship.

He played a much more prominent role once Moore was given the job on a temporary basis, so it should be little surprise that West Brom appear to have little desire to sell the 29-year-old this summer.

The Mirror’s live transfer feed (26/05; 14:12) reports that another relegated side Stoke have made a £4 million offer for the Republic of Ireland international as Gary Rowett looks to make his first signing following his appointment at the bet365 Stadium.

However, the Mirror adds that West Brom want a fee closer to £6 million and do not feel under any pressure to sell McClean – especially with the side keen on signing him set to have exactly the same ambition in the second tier next season.

McClean has not exactly been a prolific performer since he arrived from Wigan Athletic in 2015. He has provided four goals and four assists in the league in that time. However, Moore may feel that he could make a much greater impact in the Championship – having previously been superb in the division with Wigan Athletic – and is the kind of character that the club may need if they hope to make their top flight exile a very brief one.
