West Bromwich Albion are ‘trying to hijack’ an Aston Villa player’s proposed move to Turkey, according to The Sun.
Mbwana Samatta is said to be in talks with Fenerbache, just nine months after he signed for Aston Villa in a £9.1 million deal from Genk.
But it is claimed the West Brom manager Slaven Bilic hopes the Villans will let Samatta stay in the Premier League with them.
Aston Villa have already signalled that Samatta can leave and West Brom are willing to loan or even buy the Tanzanian striker – fee permitting – according to The Sun.
The Baggies are said to believe they have a chance to ‘step in and offer a move that would appeal more to Samatta’.
The 27-year-old is the latest in a long line of strikers linked with moves to West Brom this window, but the Black Country club have yet to get any of them through the door.
Samatta has scored just twice in 16 games for Aston Villa, but was prolific at Genk, for whom he found the net in six Champions League outings last season.
