West Bromwich Albion are reportedly still pursuing Angers defender Romain Thomas.

According to French newspaper L’Equipe, West Bromwich Albion remain keen on signing Angers defender Romain Thomas after a failed deadline day deal.

The Baggies may have landed Nacer Chadli, Allan Nyom and Hal Robson-Kanu in the final stages of the summer transfer window, but many Tony Pulis was left frustrated as he missed out on some other targets.

West Brom have a host of defenders already; Jonny Evans, Jonas Olsson, Gareth McAuley and Craig Dawson can all play at centre back, but it seems that Pulis wanted to bring in one more central defender before the deadline in August.

L’Equipe report that West Brom failed with a last-gasp €7.5m (£6.5m) move for Angers defender Romain Thomas, as the Ligue 1 club felt that the bid came too late in the day.

However, the report adds that it may just be delaying the inevitable, as West Brom remain keen on the player could move for him in January, though other club in England and Germany are also believed to be interested.

Thomas, 28, was a key player for Angers last season, missing just two league games in a superb season, and his performances appear to caught Pulis’ eye.

The 6ft 4in centre back possesses great strength and aerial ability, attributes that Pulis is known to love, whilst with Olsson and McAuley 33 and 36 respectively, he may feel that he wants a younger defender to come in alongside Evans.

It’s claimed that Angers have already received offers of €8m (£6.9m) for Thomas, meaning that a January deal could be on the cards – and West Brom will be hoping to finally land their man.
