Report: West Brom to offer Ben Foster new deal as Watford plot £3m bid

West Bromwich Albion are reportedly hoping to tie Ben Foster down to a new contract, but Watford are preparing a new bid for the stopper.

According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (01/07; page 59), West Brom are planning to try and tempt Ben Foster to stay at The Hawthorns by potentially offering the goalkeeper a new two-year contract with the club, but the Baggies may have to brace themselves for a new offer from Watford.

The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that the Hornets had made a £1 million bid for the 35-year-old that was laughed off by Darren Moore’s men as they look to keep as many of their key players as possible ahead of their season in the Championship.

However, The Sun on Sunday (01/07; page 59) is now reporting that Watford are preparing an offer worth an initial £3 million as well as add-ons for the former Manchester United ace, but West Brom still hope to convince Foster to stay.

The Sun on Sunday adds that the Baggies are likely to offer a new two-year deal to the veteran, but it remains to be seen whether the stopper has any interest in extending his stay.

The Daily Mail’s report during the week suggested that Foster, along with teammate Craig Dawson, was keen to leave the club this summer, so it would appear that West Brom have plenty of work to do if they hope to get the goalkeeper to end speculation by putting pen to paper on a new contract.

But given that Foster told the Express and Star in April that he would be staying whichever division the club were in, perhaps there may be scope for an outcome that sees the goalkeeper change his mind once again and decide to stick around for the coming year.

It would certainly be a boost for the Baggies if Foster did want to stay. He could easily end up the best goalkeeper in the second tier and could quite possibly help get Moore’s men back into the top flight at the earliest opportunity.
