West Bromwich Albion look destined to be playing outside of the Premier League next season.
The Baggies appear to be doomed for this season. Alan Pardew’s men are bottom of the table, eight points adrift of safety, have lost their last seven in all competitions and have won just one league game since the second weekend of the season.
The Mirror suggests that Pardew is looking set to stay until the summer when his contract will see his salary slashed in half – provided that they are relegated – and the club will not have to pay as much to get rid of the 56-year-old.
And it appears that Pardew’s future is not the only area where the club are looking to try and save themselves some money, as the Mirror adds that the new manager – if Pardew does depart this summer – is only set to be handed a strict budget during the next window.
With West Brom’s squad arguably in serious need of some rebuilding after such a disappointing season – they boast one of the oldest squads in the top flight – it may be a difficult task for the next manager to make the changes they want as a strict budget hints that there may not be a lot of money to spend.
While the fortunes of a number of clubs following relegation hints that spending extremely carefully may be a wise decision, they are undoubtedly making their task of securing immediate promotion much tougher. But in the long-term, counting the pennies may be a very smart move from the Baggies owners.
