According to the Daily Mail, Blackburn Rovers had agreed a £900,000 deal for Wigan Athletic defender Cedric Kipre – but could now miss out to West Bromwich Albion.

It’s claimed that Kipre has been speaking to Rovers and discussing personal terms, after they agreed a fee with Wigan’s administrators, which was claimed by the Lancashire Telegraph too.

However, Blackburn may now be about to miss out on Kipre after West Brom made their move for the centre back.

The Baggies are looking for another centre back after winning promotion to the Premier League, and appear to have found a bargain.

Wigan’s drastic financial position means players are being sold off on the cheap, with Jamal Lowe joining Swansea City this morning.

Kipre, 23, impressed for Wigan last season, with the ex-Leicester City man proving to be a huge physical and aerial presence at 6ft 5in tall.

The news could be a blow to West Ham United, as the Hammers made an approach to Wigan for Kipre in July according to the Daily Mail.

It now seems that Kipre is heading to The Hawthorns as things stand, but there could be time for West Ham to mount a move yet.
