A report in the Express and Star has suggested that West Brom are set to hand Matt Phillips a late fitness test ahead of their clash with Manchester United this weekend after the winger pulled out of interntional duty.

The Express and Star reports that the 26-year-old missed out on Scotland’s games with Canada and Slovenia due to a hamstring problem.

Despite the Baggies hoping that the rest would do the £5.5 million (via Sky Sports) signing some good, the Express and Star insists that Tony Pulis will not take the risk on the former Queens Park Rangers man for the clash at Old Trafford if he is not fully fit.

It could certainly be argued that not having Phillips available will be a big blow to their chances of getting a positive result against the Red Devils.

Phillips has been one of the Baggies’ most creative players this season, scoring four times and contributing eight assists in the top flight.

However, with plenty of breathing space between themselves and the two sides either side of them in the Premier League table, it certainly makes sense not to take the risk as losing him for longer will harm their chances of finishing eighth more than if he does not feature in their next game.
