Report: West Brom see Isaac Hayden enquiry rejected by Newcastle

Newcastle United have reportedly rejected West Bromwich Albion’s approach for wantaway midfielder Isaac Hayden.

According to a report from the Express and Star, West Brom have seen an approach for Isaac Hayden rejected with Newcastle determined to get a replacement in before they sanction the 23-year-old’s exit.

As reported by the Express and Star, Hayden has made no secret of the fact that he is keen to leave St James’ Park due to family reasons – and the Baggies are looking for a new central midfielder this month.

Darren Moore’s side are right in the promotion mix, but they still have some ground to make up on the Championship’s top two. However, they clearly have the potential to take charge of the division over the coming months.

But Moore may have to look elsewhere in his attempts to get a new midfielder through the door at The Hawthorns. The Express and Star reports Newcastle have knocked back an approach for the former Arsenal trainee.

The report adds that Hayden – who earns £22,000-a-week, according to Spotrac – will not be allowed to leave the Magpies until Rafa Benitez has got a replacement in.

Of course, if Hayden is a top target for Moore, then he may wish to hold fire on pursuing other options in case Newcastle do manage to make a signing that leaves the path clear for the youngster to leave.

But that would be a gamble, especially as there seems to be absolutely no guarantee that Newcastle are going to look to be particularly busy before the window shuts.
