West Bromwich Albion have already started their preparations for the summer it seems, making a bid for Benfica defender Jardel.

A report from Portuguese outlet Record has suggested that West Brom are plotting an improved bid for Benfica defender Jardel after seeing their opening bid turned down by the Portuguese giants.
According to Record, the Baggies have already made a move for the 31-year-old, but will have to increase their offer if they hope to bag his signature, having failed with their initial bid.
However, Record adds that the Premier League side do plan to make another offer for the Brazilian, but may struggle to complete a deal with Benfica determined to keep him.
That is perhaps surprising given that he has barely featured for Rui Vitoria’s men this term, with Jardel making just two appearances in the top flight for Aguias despite playing over 100 times in the league for the club since his arrival in 2011.

Given his inability to hold down a place in his current team, it is also perhaps a surprise that Tony Pulis is seemingly so keen to bring him to the Hawthorns.
West Brom arguably do need additional depth at the heart of the back-line – unless they recruit a right-back, which should free up Craig Dawson to play in his preferred position in the middle – but Baggies supporters would surely prefer a younger option who has been a much more important player for his club side in recent times.
