West Bromwich Albion have earmarked Tottenham Hotspur defender Kevin Wimmer as a potential summer target.

A report in the Daily Mail has suggested that Tottenham defender Kevin Wimmer is one of the defenders that West Brom are planning to target this summer as Tony Pulis attempts to bolster his options following a promising season.

The Baggies have spent the majority of the campaign in the top-half of the Premier League table, but appear to have run out of steam in recent weeks and now appear to be in danger of missing out on the top eight.

Unsurprisingly therefore, Pulis appears to be keen to add plenty of strength during the summer and has identified the Austrian defender as a player worth targeting following his difficult time at Tottenham.

The Mail reports that Spurs are willing to sell the 24-year-old given his place behind the likes of Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen and Eric Dier in the pecking order at White Hart Lane, but the Baggies’ path to his signature appears to be congested.

According to the Mail, Wimmer is attracting interest from Italian and German sides, and after a fairly frustrating time with Spurs, he will surely be looking for assurances that whoever he joins will give him plenty of first-team football, especially if he has numerous offers on the table.

Although West Brom’s defence has impressed this term, they could certainly do with some younger options – 37-year-old Gareth McAuley has certainly done extremely well – to give themselves the very best chance to ensure that this campaign is not a one-off.
