West Brom are reportedly interested in signing Benfica forward Jonas.
According to Sport Italia’s Alfredo Pedulla, West Brom are monitoring Benfica forward Jonas – despite reports of an imminent move for Jose Salomon Rondon.
Reports from The Daily Mail on Friday suggested that the Baggies had seen a bid accepted for Zenit St. Petersburg forward Rondon, with the 25-year-old Venezuelan costing as much as £15m.
That comes even after signing Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert last week, with manager Tony Pulis seemingly desperate to add attacking firepower this summer.
Now though, Sport Italia’s Pedulla reports that West Brom are considering a move for Benfica forward Jonas, the former Brazilian international.
Jonas, 31, joined Benfica on a free transfer last summer after leaving Valencia, and smashed 31 goals in 35 games for the Portuguese giants in a remarkable season.
With just one year left on his contract with Benfica, Jonas could be a cut-price target for West Brom, who are making ambitious moves to strengthen their striking options.
Jonas loves to play just behind a striker, where he can pick the ball up from deep and not only score goals but also create chances for his team-mates.
The Brazilian is far from the greatest athlete but he is technically gifted and could bring something different to the West Brom attack – even if he may only be a backup option in case the Rondon deal doesn’t go through.
