According to a report in The Athletic, West Brom have been priced out of a move for Crystal Palace defender Mamadou Sakho.
The Baggies were reportedly keen to bring Sakho into the club this month, but that now seems rather unlikely as the 29-cap France international’s wages appear to be too high for the Midlands outfit.
This is in spite of the fact it has been reported that Sakho is willing to take a pay-cut to leave Crystal Palace.
It’s a real shame to hear that the Baggies won’t be able to land Sakho as he could have been a key component in transforming West Brom’s shaky backline, with Sam Allardyce a huge fan of his, having worked with him at Selhurst Park.
Indeed, Allardyce once labelled the Frenchman as a ‘good defender’ claiming that he had been ‘exceptionally good’ after joining Palace.

Of course, Big Sam famously saved the London outfit from seemingly imminent relegation back in 2017, and he faces a similar task with West Brom, so having Sakho to call upon would have been a major boost.
Unfortunately, it seems as though Allardyce and Luke Dowling will now have to look elsewhere when it comes to trying to recruit defensive reinforcements, while Sakho could find himself stuck at Palace as OGC Nice face similar issues in terms of finances.
