According to The Mirror, West Bromwich Albion are prepared to break their transfer record in order to sign Watford striker Troy Deeney this summer.
The Baggies picked up a 0-0 draw in a valiant performance against Manchester United on Saturday afternoon, with Tony Pulis’ men frustrating the Red Devils.
Pulis still has West Brom hard to beat, but he has embraced a more attractive brand of football this season, and could look to add to that with more firepower this summer, given that Salomon Rondon hasn’t scored since the 14th of December.
Now, The Mirror report that West Brom have set their sights on landing Watford’s Troy Deeney, and are prepared to break their transfer record in order to sign him in a £20million deal.
Deeney, 28, was born in Birmingham and may be tempted to make a return to the West Midlands this summer, after a patchy season that has seen him go long stretches without a goal, but he has now hit five in his last eight outings.
The burly striker has broken the 100 goal mark in a Watford shirt following a 2010 move from Walsall, and having hit 13 Premier League goals last season, he attracted summer interest from Leicester City – but the Hornets rejected a £15million bid and tied Deeney down to a new deal.

Walter Mazzarri’s men may have to fight off interest again though this summer, as West Brom could offer around £20million for Deeney, who fits the bill as a typical Tony Pulis striker given his strength and ability to lead the line on his own.
Watford won’t want to sell their captain, but may see £20million as too good to turn down for a player who turns 29 this summer – and the Baggies will certainly be hoping that’s the case as they pursue a deal for Deeney, who has nine league goals to his name this term.
