West Bromwich Albion are reportedly keen on Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen.
According to Sky Sports, West Bromwich Albion are interested in bringing Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen back to the Premier League this summer.
The Baggies have already added Southampton’s Jay Rodriguez to boost their attacking options, whilst Egyptian international centre back Ahmed Hegazy has arrived from Al Ahly.
However, manager Tony Pulis may still be keen on adding defensive reinforcements, with the Baggies possibly in the market for another left-sided centre back to compete with Gareth McAuley.
Sky Sports now report that West Brom are interested in signing Barcelona defender Thomas Vermaelen, as they look to bring him back to the Premier League this summer.
Vermaelen, 31, emerged in the ranks with Ajax, racking up over 130 appearances before heading to Arsenal in 2009, where he scored 15 times in 150 games as he struggled with injuries.
The Belgian international moved on to Barcelona in 2014, but has played just 21 times for the Catalan giants, and spent last season on loan with Roma in Italy, where he failed to win a permanent deal.

Now back with Barcelona but unlikely to have a future under Ernesto Valverde, Vermaelen looks set to leave the Camp Nou again this summer, though it’s unclear whether that will be permanently or on loan again.
West Brom – as well as Crystal Palace – are believed to be considering moves for Vermaelen, and the Baggies may well be hoping that reuniting with Nacer Chadli can help them win the race and give the centre back a return to England.
