West Bromwich Albion boss Slaven Bilic is reportedly keen to sign the Ligue 1 striker this summer.
According to a report from The Sun on Sunday (21/7; page 63), West Brom are planning to make a £5 million bid for Amiens striker Moussa Konate as Slaven Bilic continues his preparations for his first season at the Hawthorns.
The Baggies appear to have stepped up their intent in the transfer window in recent days. Kenneth Zohore and Semi Ajayi have both joined the club this week, and it seems that Bilic is hoping that the 26-year-old will soon follow the pair through the door.
The Sun on Sunday (21/7; page 63) reports that West Brom will make a seven-figure bid for the Senegal international, who scored seven goals in 21 Ligue 1 starts last season.
It is no surprise that Bilic has prioritised strengthening his striker options this summer. Dwight Gayle and Jay Rodriguez were sensational for the play-off semi-finalists last season, but neither looks set to be at the club during the coming year, with Rodriguez joining Burnley and Gayle returning to parent club Newcastle.
Meanwhile, Salomon Rondon has now completed a move to China. The £8 million move for Zohore has alleviated some of the concerns, but it would still be a big gamble to go into next season without getting another goalscorer added to the ranks.
Konate has done fairly well in both Switzerland and France during his career, and has previously played in Israel, Russia and Italy, so he has plenty of experience in adapting his game. He was also included in Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations squad that went on to reach the final this summer.
