The Baggies are considering going after the Hornets forward in the final hours of the window.

West Bromwich Albion are hoping to smash their transfer record by making a £32m move for Watford striker Odion Ighalo, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Baggies – who broke their record with the recent £13m acquisition of Nacer Chadli (via Guardian) – are on the verge of selling Saido Berahino to Stoke City, and have earmarked the Hornets man as his potential replacement, the Mirror reports.

The Mirror adds that Ighalo had been the subject of a £38m bid from China earlier in the summer, only for the player to reject the proposed switch to Shanghai SIPG and sign a new deal at Vicarage Road, much to the frustration of the club’s hierarchy.

With Walter Mazzarri’s men now boasting plenty of depth in attacking areas – they have signed the likes of Isaac Success, Stefano Okaka and Roberto Pereyra during this window – they may perhaps be willing to accept the kind of bid that the Mirror suggests is coming their way, especially as Ighalo has scored just 3 goals in his last 21 club games in all competitions.

And with a move to West Brom allowing him to stay in the Premier League and seeing him join a much less congested squad – especially if Berahino does end up leaving – it is perhaps not difficult to imagine that the Nigeria inteernational would be interested in joining Tony Pulis’ side.
