West Bromwich Albion will not be able to make major additions in January until they sell, while Swansea City are preparing a move for Nacer Chadli.

According to a report from the Daily Star, Swansea’s hopes of finally getting a deal for West Brom midfielder Nacer Chadli across the line when the January transfer window opens have been handed a boost with the Baggies needing to sell players before they can make significant signings.

The Baggies are certainly in a precarious position in the Premier League. Their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday has left Alan Pardew’s men second bottom in the Premier League table, two points off safety.

With no wins since August, it is no surprise that the Star are reporting that West Brom plan to be busy next month – but they will only be able to get some deals across the line on the condition that they manage to sell some players on.

One player who is attracting attention, according to the Star, is Chadli – with the Swans keen to sign the Belgian having failed to land him with a £15 million bid in the summer.

The Star’s suggestion that Swansea should have more luck next month is perhaps slightly surprising given that they are the only team below West Brom in the table right now.

If Chadli moves to the Liberty Stadium and rediscovers his best form, Paul Clement’s men may stand a great chance of getting their act together – and that may have a negative impact on West Brom’s own chances of staying up.

But if Pardew has no other choice but to sell Chadli to a relegation rival if he wants funds to spend in January, then perhaps it is a gamble worth taking as the former Tottenham man has struggled to live up to expectation at The Hawthorns.
