West Bromwich Albion striker Kenneth Zohore has been offered a £25,000-a-week wage at Sheffield Wednesday as he looks to leave the Hawthorns on loan, according to The Sun (27 September, page 61).

With Slaven Bilic making it clear he wants a new number nine through the door before next week’s transfer deadline, any hopes Zohore might have had of forcing his way into the Baggies’ starting XI appear to have gone up in smoke.

West Brom are in talks to sign Habib Diallo from Metz and M’baye Niang from Rennes, while Huddersfield Town’s Karlan Grant is also on their radar.

So if Zohore can’t buy a game right now, all signs suggest a man who started just five out of a possible 46 Championship fixtures last season will fall further down the pecking order sooner rather than later.

The big-money benchwarmer joined West Brom for £8 million last summer and earns a staggering £50,000 a week in the Midlands.

So The Baggies will have little choice but to contribute a sizeable proportion of his wages if Zohore leaves on loan before 5pm next Monday.

Sheffield Wednesday have made an offer, although a club docked 12 points recently due to Financial Fair Play breaches can only afford to pay half his weekly pay packet.

If the former Cardiff City favourite wants to get his career back on track, there are few better destinations than Hillsborough.

In Garry Monk, the Owls have a coach with a superb track record when it comes to getting the best out of classic powerful number nines such as Zohore. Success stories include Wilfred Bony at Swansea, Britt Assombalonga at Middlesbrough, Chris Wood at Leeds and Steven Fletcher at Wednesday.
