West Bromwich Albion are in pole position to sign Leeds United defender Charlie Taylor, according to The Telegraph.

Taylor is out of contract at the end of June and handed in a transfer request last summer.

Leeds’ failure to make the play-offs appears to have been the death knell for their chances of keeping him.

West Brom are long term admirers of Taylor, linked in successive transfer windows, and now look set to get their man.

The Telegraph report West Brom have made contact with Taylor’s agent and are ‘hopeful of concluding a deal’.

Taylor is regarded as one of the best left-backs outside the Premier League, and has been a key part of Leeds’ first team since breaking through in January 2015.

Burnley are also in the race to sign Taylor but it is West Brom doing the early running, with manager Tony Pulis keen to get the deal over the line.

Despite Taylor being out of contract in June, Leeds will still be entitled to a compensation fee to be decided by a FA tribunal as he has come through their academy.

Leeds have played utility man Gaetano Berardi at left-back this season when Taylor has been injured and have youngster Tyler Denton, but will likely need to sign a replacement for the outgoing star this summer.
