According to The Sunday Mirror (10/01, p72), West Bromwich Albion have made contact over a deal for Bordeaux striker Josh Maja.
It’s claimed that Sam Allardyce is desperate to add firepower to his squad this month, and that has taken him to Maja.
West Brom have allegedly made first contact with Bordeaux, asking them about a loan deal that could become permanent in the summer.
Allardyce was Sunderland boss when Maja was a rookie at the Stadium of Light, and he seemingly hasn’t forgotten about the Nigerian striker’s quality.
Sheffield United and Birmingham City are thought to be keen on Maja, but West Brom now hope to win the race having inititated contact.
Maja, 22, smashed 16 goals in 30 games for Sunderland during the 2018-19 season, earning his big move to France with Bordeaux.
Seven goals in 21 league games was a decent return last season, but he has only managed two goals in 17 outings this season.
That form means Bordeaux may be open to a deal, and two years since leaving English football, Maja could be back if Allardyce gets his way.
