Report: West Brom make bid for striker Abdoulay Diaby

West Bromwich Albion have reportedly made a move to sign Abdoulay Diaby this summer.

According to a report from Spanish outlet ElDesmarque, West Brom are amongst the clubs to have made a move to sign Club Brugge striker Abdoulay Diaby this summer.

The Baggies have so far brought in three signings, with two goalkeepers and Kyle Bartley arriving to strengthen Darren Moore’s options at The Hawthorns. It now appears that Moore has his eye fixed on bolstering his ranks further forward.

According to ElDesmarque, West Brom are rivalling Levante for Diaby, who the Belgian side are likely to sell this summer with just one year remaining on his contract. The report suggests that Brugge are looking for a fee starting at around £3.5 million.

The 27-year-old is something of an unknown quantity for Moore given that he has spent his entire career in France and Belgium, but his career record is certainly not underwhelming by any means.

Diaby has scored 31 goals in 86 league games for Brugge, including 15 in 34 games last season. He has also scored five goals in 12 games for Mali, so his contract situation perhaps makes him a potential bargain for the Baggies if they can get something done.

It would certainly be something of a risky signing for West Brom – especially if any of their current strikers depart before the window closes – but his form in the last couple of years just hints that he may have the potential to prove to be an inspired addition for whichever club snaps him up.
