West Bromwich Albion look set to see off competition from Newcastle United for Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.

Sturridge has endured a frustrating campaign so far, making just five Premier League starts for the Reds this term, with nine appearances in the total in the top flight.

The Mail suggests that a January move is looking likely for the 28-year-old, and that Newcastle had been heavily linked with the Englishman as Rafa Benitez looks to give the Magpies some greater depth up front.
However, according to the Mail’s live transfer feed (29th January 2018; 14:04), Newcastle look set to suffer a significant blow, as it is former boss Alan Pardew who is on the verge of winning the race to sign Sturridge on loan. The Mirror’s live transfer feed (29th January 2018; 14:19) suggests that West Brom are ready to offer a deal that would involve a loan becoming permanent in the summer.

If the deal goes through, it will undoubtedly be a huge boost for West Brom’s survival hopes at a point in the season where they appear to be turning a corner and look as if they may have enough to get themselves out of trouble in the top flight.
When Sturridge is fit, he is the kind of striker who most Premier League sides would break the bank to sign. So if Pardew is able to use him extensively between now and the end of the season, West Brom surely stand a great chance of getting out of trouble – while Newcastle may be left to kick themselves if they do ultimately miss out.
