West Bromwich Albion have become the latest club to be linked with a move for Stoke City defender Ryan Shawcross.

A report in the Telegraph has suggested that West Brom have become the latest club to register an interest in Stoke City captain Ryan Shawcross.
Shawcross’ future at the Bet365 Stadium is somewhat up in the air currently. The Telegraph reports that his contract with the Potters expires at the end of next season, and while talks are planned regarding a new deal, there are a number of teams ready to hand him a fresh start, including Newcastle and Leicester.
However, the Telegraph adds that the Baggies are also interested in signing the 29-year-old as they look to build upon the excellent season they have enjoyed in the Premier League this year.
It should perhaps come as little surprise that West Brom are keen on bagging Shawcross’ signature. It was current Baggies boss Tony Pulis who brought the centre-back to Stoke in 2007, and the pair became synonymous with the Potters side that went on to establish themselves at the highest level.

With Shawcross’ contract having little time left to run, West Brom will know that Stoke could feel pressured to sell this summer if it becomes clear that the centre-back has no plans to extend his deal, so they may be hoping that they could pull off a move for a bargain fee.
And with Pulis continuing to get the very best out of 37-year-old Gareth McAuley, there is perhaps no reason why Shawcross cannot go on to enjoy a significantly long spell at the Hawthorns should West Brom win the race.
