Report: West Brom interested in signing Ali Gabr on loan

According to a report from the Express and Star, West Brom are considering a loan move for Egyptian defender Ali Gabr, who is an international teammate of Ahmed Hegazi.

The Express and Star reports that without selling Jonny Evans, the Baggies are set to be able to only bring in one or two loan signings during the January transfer window, and Gabr is a player on their radar.

The report suggests that the Premier League side have been tracking Gabr for some time, and could now be ready to make a move that will involve the 29-year-old arriving at The Hawthorns on loan with an option that will allow West Brom to make the deal permanent in the summer.

The West Brom fans will undoubtedly be hoping, if a move goes through, that the centre-back proves to be as inspired a signing as Hegazi, who has certainly made an impact during his first season in England.

Hegazi’s deal has already been made permanent after the defender established himself as one of the side’s key players and was arguably one of their best performers during the latter stages of Tony Pulis’ tenure when few players emerged with any credit.

And if Gabr arrives and manages to emulate anything like the level that his countryman has been at, then that would undoubtedly be a tremendous piece of business, but Baggies fans will be hoping that it is followed by further signings before the deadline.
