Cedric Kipre wants to play Premier League football and West Bromwich Albion are ‘increasingly confident’ of beating Blackburn Rovers to his signature, according to the Express and Star.

The exodus is well underway at Wigan Athletic and it seems only a matter of time before this powerhouse of a centre-back follows Kieffer Moore, Jamal Lowe, Joe Gelhardt, Antonee Robinson and manager Paul Cook out the door.

Cash-strapped Wigan have accepted a bargain £900,000 fee from Blackburn, but no Rovers fan should be printing Kipre’s name on the back of their new kit just yet.

Because, after missing out to Rangers for Jon McLaughlin, Tony Mowbray’s side could be pipped to the post again, this time by a West Brom side who secured a return to the Premier League last season, finishing second behind Leeds United.

The Express and Star claims that the 23-year-old Frenchman – a former Leicester youngster who initially caught the eye north of the door at Motherwell – could be on his way to The Hawthorns instead of Ewood Park.

Kipre wants to prove himself in the top flight and West Brom can offer such an opportunity.

No wonder the Baggies are, according to the E&S, ‘increasingly confident’ of getting a deal wrapped up.

The Midland club signed another relegated Championship defender last summer in Semi Ajayi. If Kipre can make a similar impact to the 11-capped Nigeria international, he will be one of the deals of the summer at less than £1 million.
