Celtic may lose out to West Bromwich Albion in the race for Carl Jenkinson.

Carl Jenkinson of Arsenal looks on during the Premier League 2 match between Chelsea and Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on April 15, 2019 in London, England.

According to Sky Sports, West Bromwich Albion are in talks with Arsenal about a deal to sign right back Carl Jenkinson.

The Baggies desperately need another right back, and new boss Slaven Bilic will be looking to bolster his options in that position.

It’s no great surprise that he’s interested in signing Jenkinson, as the pair worked together at West Ham United in the 2015-16 season.

Celtic are also keen to land Jenkinson, but it’s claimed that West Brom have opened talks with Arsenal about a deal in an attempt to beat the Bhoys to his signature.

There’s no doubting that both teams are in need of a right back. West Brom used Tosin Adarabioyo there before signing Mason Holgate, but both loanees have now returned to their parent clubs.

Celtic will see Mikael Lustig and Cristian Gamboa leave this month, and Neil Lennon had seemingly eyed up Jenkinson as a potential solution to Celtic’s right back woes.

West Brom may feel that Bilic will be key to their hopes of winning the race. A reunion may well appeal to Jenkinson, who played regularly under the Croatian at West Ham, and it’s that kind of relationship that may trump Celtic’s interest.

Celtic can offer a title challenge and European football, but with Jenkinson’s former boss Bilic offering a reunion and a stay in England, the Baggies have plenty in their favour too.
