Report: West Brom hope to beat Leeds to Kyle Bartley deal by weekend

West Bromwich Albion are hoping that they will have Kyle Bartley signed by the weekend to see off competition from Leeds United.

According to a report from the Daily Mail’s live transfer feed (09/07; 16:15), West Brom hope to see off competition from Leeds United by completing a deal to sign Kyle Bartley by the weekend.

The Baggies currently have one signing through the door this summer, with Sam Johnstone arriving on a permanent basis from Manchester United. And having lost Jonny Evans during this window, it now appears that Darren Moore is switching his attention to strengthening his options at the back.

The Mail reports that Bartley is a target for West Brom as well as Championship rivals Leeds – but it would certainly appear that it is the Baggies who are very much in the driving seat for the centre-back.

According to the Mail (09/07; 16:15), West Brom have held productive talks with Bartley about a move from Swansea, and are now hoping that they can convince the £4 million-rated 27-year-old to complete a move to The Hawthorns by the end of the week.

It would be a fantastic deal for West Brom if they could see off competition from Leeds and win the race. Returning to Elland Road is surely going to be a tempting option for the former Arsenal trainee after his fantastic loan spell with the club a couple of years ago, so it would be a statement of intent from the Baggies if they manage to get a deal across the line.

For Leeds, it would unquestionably be a big blow to their hopes of putting last season’s disappointment behind them if they missed out. Marcelo Bielsa’s side need that defensive leader and Bartley appeared to tick a lot of the boxes, so watching him head elsewhere will be difficult to stomach for a lot of Whites supporters.
