Matheus Pereira had been linked with a move to Championship outfit West Bromwich Albion from Sporting Lisbon.

West Bromwich Albion’s hopes of signing Matheus Pereira have taken a hit why Sky Sports claiming that Sporting Lisbon’s demands are simply too high as it stands.

A winger who has been compared to Mo Salah on the back of an eye-catching loan spell at Nurnburg, Pereira emerged as a target for West Brom this week as Slaven Bilic looks to rebuild a side that has been stripped of its star players since that play-off semi-final defeat to rivals Aston Villa.

The Brazilian was a revelation in the Bundesliga last season, scoring a superb goal in a Bavarian derby draw with Bayern Munich, and reports had suggested that another loan move was on the cards for the 23-year-old.

But, according to Sky, there is an unfortunate sting in the tail.

Portuguese sides tend to demand big fees for their prized assets and this is no different. Sporting reportedly demanded far too much for a player West Brom were interested in signing either on a permanent or a temporary basis.

Slaven Bilic and co, then, will be forced to look elsewhere.

And the fact that Pereira, a player with pace, skill and end product, was apparently keen on a move to The Hawthorns will only add to the frustration. Record claims that he was aware of interest from the Championship giants and keen to give life a go in England’s second tier.
